History
David
has been involved in the auction business for more than 20
years. He started going to auctions as a hobby, but after a short while,
he was working as a handler during sales and helping with moving and sale
set-up in his spare time, while continuing to work full time.
He
worked with a well established auctioneer, Allen Horner, now deceased.
One day in August 1989, while conducting a sale Allen developed a frog
in his throat and David jumped in to sell a few items while Allen recovered.
He had never auctioned anything before that, but he had been entertaining the idea of getting more involved when the opportunity presented itself. In the spring of 1990 David was the Ontario Auctioneers Association Novice Champion.
David has not attended auction school. He began his working career in retail sales, and is naturally outgoing, so auctioneer almost seemed like a natural progression for him. He worked for a number of auctioneers over a period of about 10 years and learned from each of them. Eventually he felt confident enough to strike out on his own and began holding his own sales in 1993. Since 1995 he has been working exclusively in the Auction business both on his own and with others.
Though estates and antiques are his forte, he has been involved in all types of sales from commercial/industrial equipment and unclaimed freight to cattle and farm machinery.
David is very active in the Auctioneers Assoc. of Ontario, (2004 President). He is also a member of the Auctioneers Assoc. of Canada.
